GENERAL INFORMATION ON TOURNAMENT TEAMS

Tournament Teams are a long-standing tradition for Little League International, and Shorewood Little League.  Each season our League sends four teams to the National Little League Tournament: one from Juniors, two from Majors, and one from AAA. Overall these players are our league's best players of the season.   The player eligibility parameters for each divisional team ballot are:

  • Must have played in 60% of their regular season games by June 15.
  • Must be available for practice from June 15 until the start of the Tournament Team games
  •  Must be able to provide 3 individual proofs of residency in Shorewood, as well as the ORIGINAL birth certificate to prove age (passports are no longer acceptable).
  • The Tournament Teams are divided as such:
    • Juniors ... Players are in 7th & 8th grade and league age 12-14
    • Majors 11/12* ... Players are in 6th & 7th grade and league age 11 & 12
    • Majors 10/11* ... Players are in 5th & 6th grade and league age 10 & 11
    • AAA ... Players are in 3rd & 4th grade and league age 9 & 10
*For players in the Majors -- if you have a birthday that falls on May 1 or later, and elected to play up with your grade (as a 5th grader), you wil stay with your grade (and that ballot) for two years.  Consequently, when you are 6th grader - but still technically league age 11 -- you will stay with your grade, and cannot move back down with your age (or be on both ballots). If you have any concerns or are not clear on these requirements contact the player agent or manager for Little League requirements relating to residency and birth certificates.
Advancement of Tournament Teams :
  •  Juniors can advance all the way to the Junior Divison World Series in Williamsport.
  •  Majors 11/12 can advance all the way to the Little League World Series in Williamsport.
  • Majors 10/11 tournament play ends at State
  • AAA 9/10 tournament play ends at State
How are the players selected?  Balloting takes place early June.   Tournament Team Ballots are given to players, managers, and coaches of each these divisions.   Each player and Team Manager selects the best players from their division, selecting a minimum of one player per team.  Assistant Coach (es) for each team submit ONE ballot (some teams have more than one assistant).

Ballots are tallied by the Player Agent and President (or other Board Member).  The Tournament Team Manager in each division, with input from the other division Team Managers select the tournament team players from the top vote getters.   Remember, the goal of each of these teams is to field the most competitive team that has enough balance in skills to meet the demands of tournament play.
If you know your child will be gone during the Tournament , please let us know as soon as possible so we can plan these teams appropriately.

If your child has not participated in 60% of their games as of June 15, their name may not be on the ballot or may not be eligible for the final tournament teams.  If your child is not of the correct league age in a division, their name may not appear on the ballot either.

If selected for the team you must participate in practices – these may be scheduled ANY day or time of day during the week, including Sunday.   Please understand that failure to be available for practice and/or games can result in the player’s removal from the team.

Who are the Managers of the Tournament Teams ?

Team Managers and League President determine the Tournament Team Managers.   The Tournament Team Manager will select one to two coaches to assist with the team.

Can my child play in other baseball programs during the Tournament ?

Yes, as long as priority is given to the Tournament Team.  If a player misses Tournament Team practices, the TT Manager, with Board approval, has the authority to remove the player from the Tournament Team.  If a player misses a game, they are redlined from the Tournament Team roster, and the team continues without them, or calls up another player from the division as their replacement.

If you have any questions regarding these Tournament Teams, please call or email the League President   .
