Tournament Team Info for 2007
Dear Shorewood Little League Families,
Tournament Teams are a long-standing tradition for Little League International, and Shorewood Little League. Each season our League sends four teams to the National Little League Tournament: one from Juniors, two from Majors, and one from AAA. Overall these players are our league's best players of the season.
The player eligibility parameters for each divisional team ballot are:
-
Must have played in 50% of their regular season games as of June 15.
-
Must be available for practice from June 15 until the start of the Tournament Team games (see dates)
-
Must be able to provide 3 individual proofs of residency in Shorewood, as well as the ORIGINAL birth certificate to prove age.
The Tournament Teams are divided as such:
-
Juniors: players are in 7th & 8th grade and league age 12-14
-
Majors 11/12*: players are in 6th & 7th grade and league age 11 & 12
-
Majors 10/11*: players are in 5th & 6th grade and league age 10 & 11
-
AAA: players are in 3rd & 4th grade and league age 9 & 10
*For the 2007 season only, players who are in 6th grade who are league age 11 will have the option of selecting which ballot they would like to be on; they cannot be on both ballots, and if they do not make the 12 year old team, they are not eligible for the 11 year old team.
Next season, the Board has voted to allow each division to be separated by GRADE rather than by the National Little League Age.
(The New Divisional Structure for 2008 Article will be available at the website by July 2007).
If you have any concerns or are not clear on these requirements contact the player agent or manager for Little League requirements relating to residency and birth certificates.
2007 Tournament Team Start Dates:
-
July 8 -- Majors 11/12 these teams can advance all the way to the Little League World Series
-
July 14 -- Juniors
-- these teams can also advance all the way to the Junior World Series
-
July 23 -- AAA these teams can advance to the State level
-
July 25 -- Majors 10/11 these teams can advance the State level
How are the players selected?
Balloting takes place early to mid-June.
Tournament Team Ballots are given to players, managers, and coaches of each these divisions.
Each player and Team Manager selects the best players from their division, selecting a minimum of one player per team. Assistant Coach(es) for each team submit ONE ballot (some teams have more than one assistant).
Ballots are tallied by the Player Agent or President in the presence of the Division Vice President.
The Tournament Team Manager of each division, with input from the other division Team Managers will select the tournament team players from the top vote getters.
Remember, the goal of each of these teams is to field the most competitive team that has enough balance of skills to meet the demands of tournament play.
When does the voting take place?
FOR 2007
-
Saturday, June 2 JUNIORS & MAJORS ONLY VOTE voting will take place 30 minutes before the picture time at the Picture Day site.
-
Wednesday, June 13 AND Friday, June 15 AAA VOTES on Wednesday, voting will take place at Spector Field (behind home plate) starting at 7PM until after game time AND on Friday, voting will take place at Spector Field (behind home plate) from 5 to 5:30PM.
Announcing of Teams:
Juniors & Majors players will be announced just prior to June 15, with practice beginning shortly there after. AAA players will be announced by June 20, with practice beginning there after.
If you know your child will be gone during the Tournament, please contact us as soon as possible so we can remove his or her name from the ballot.
If your child has not participated in 50% of their games as of June 15, their name may not be on the ballot.
If selected for the team you must participate in practices these may be scheduled ANY day or time of day during the week, including Sunday.
Please understand that failure to be available for practice and/or games can result in the players removal from the team.
Who are the Managers of the Tournament Teams?
The division coordinator, along with the other division Team Managers, and League President, will determine the Tournament Team Managers.
The Tournament Team Manager will select one to two coaches from our Shorewood Little League to assist with the team.
Can my child play in other baseball programs during the Tournament?
National Little League mandates that players named to the Tournament Team Affidavit may NOT participate in other youth baseball programs (including the rec baseball program Midgets & Minors) once their Tournament Play begins.
If you have any questions regarding these Tournament Teams, please call or email.
Joanne Dixon
SLL President
