Update on the 2020 Season

To SLL Families, and the Shorewood community:

Due to the ongoing pandemic and health and safety guidelines, we have had to make some difficult decisions about the 2020 season. For our Minors and Juniors levels, the board has decided to cancel the season entirely. For Minors, this decision was due to field availability and safety considerations. For Juniors, the decision was largely due to a lack of field availability.

Our plan for the AAA and Majors levels is as follows: Starting June 1, our teams will conduct practices at Spector Field, likely twice a week. Players will practice with the same team throughout the program, though it is likely that some players will be placed on teams that are different from their original placement in March.

While we are not ruling out the possibility of scrimmages or games down the line, our focus will be on making these practices as fun and as instructive as possible. Here on our website you can access SLL’s COVID-19 Safety Plan, and we will continue to follow that plan, including masks, social distancing and sanitizing, as it pertains to practices. Our plan was devised by the board's three-person safety committee consisting of medical and health professionals. It aligns with and in some cases exceeds guidance from Little League International. Note that it is subject to change as we progress into our season. We plan to reassess the situation in late June to see if there is the possibility of transitioning to games in July.

We are eager to get back onto the field, and strongly believe in the physical, mental and emotional health benefits for our kids. At the same time we are mindful of recommendations by local and state health officials that gatherings be limited to 10 people. We believe by limiting our group sizes, wearing masks, sanitizing and engaging in social distancing, we can enjoy playing and teaching baseball while promoting a safe community environment.

We know that some families will choose not to participate. We completely understand that decision, and you will receive a full refund. For those who do participate, you will receive a partial refund of your registration fee.

Thanks for your patience and support for Shorewood Little League throughout the spring. There are no simple answers to the current situation. But we look forward to building a positive experience this summer for the AAA and Majors levels. For Minors and Juniors, this was a painful decision, but we are hopeful to be back on the field with you under more normal circumstances in the not-too-distant future.

Sincerely,

The Shorewood Little League Board
